HSBC at a glance
- HSBC's case rests on something the other high street banks cannot easily match: it is part of a genuinely global group, and it wires that into the retail account. Global Money and Global View let you hold, spend and see money across countries from a UK app.
- If your money stays in sterling, that advantage is theoretical and HSBC competes on much the same terms as the rest of the high street. For expats, frequent travellers and anyone paid from or sending money to another country, it is the reason to look here first.
HSBC services
Current accounts, savings and Cash ISAs, fixed-rate savings, credit cards, personal loans, mortgages, insurance, investments and Premier Banking, through the app, online, by telephone and in branch.
The international layer is what to compare it on: the Global Money Account for holding and spending foreign currency, Global View for seeing overseas HSBC accounts alongside UK ones, and Premier Banking for customers who meet its eligibility thresholds. The rest is a competent high street range rather than a market-leading one.

Our Assessment of HSBC
We like HSBC because it offers something many high street banks cannot match: a genuinely international banking proposition. The Global Money Account is useful for customers who travel, spend in foreign currencies or manage money across borders, while Global View helps eligible customers see HSBC accounts held in different countries. HSBC is not necessarily the most exciting option for simple UK-only banking, but it is one of the strongest high street choices for customers with overseas financial needs.

How HSBC compares
Compared with other major high street banks such as Barclays, Lloyds, Halifax and NatWest, HSBC stands out most clearly for international banking. Its Global Money Account and Global View features make it particularly attractive to frequent travellers, expats and customers with financial links outside the UK. For everyday UK-only banking, HSBC may not offer the strongest rewards or budgeting tools, and some digital banks may be better for spending insights or fee-free travel. HSBC may suit customers who want a full-service high street bank with genuine global reach.
