Cash ISA

HSBC Cash ISA

HSBC's easy-access ISA is called the Loyalty Cash ISA, and the name is the point: it is available only to HSBC current account customers, and the rate you get depends on which current account you hold. A separate fixed-rate Cash ISA pays more.

What to check first

  • You cannot open the Loyalty Cash ISA without an HSBC current account. It is a reward for banking with HSBC rather than an account open to the market.
  • Even among HSBC customers the rate is tiered: Premier customers get 3.00%, everyone else 2.50%. Check which tier you are in before comparing it against other banks.
  • It is not a flexible ISA. HSBC's own wording is that a withdrawal will not change how much of your annual allowance you have already used, so money taken out is allowance lost.
  • The 4.00% fixed rate is a different product with a fixed term, not an alternative rate on the same account.

A Cash ISA allowance is annual and does not roll over. Read how the providers compare before committing it to one bank.
